On this date in 1997, the first Black-owned microbrewing company was founded. Brothers Beer Company Inc. is based in Oakland California and conducts business as Brothers Brewing Company, BBC or Brothers, BBC.

Brothers is headed by Michael LeBlanc, President, Tony Harris,
Vice President, Gwendolyn Leath, Controller, and Thomas Parker, Production Manager. BBC features a number of fine beer products with special emphasis on their Honey Brewed Amber Ale.

BBC is in the process of establishing a number of Brothers BrewPubs throughout the United States. Brothers Brewing Company filed as an Articles of Incorporation in the State of California on Tuesday, February 22, 2000. This corporation is no longer active according to documents filed with California Secretary of State.
