Project 21 is Founded

*The founding of Project 21 is celebrated on this date in 1993. Project 21 is the design of The National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR).

It is a conservative organization that promotes the views of Blacks whose capitalist spirit, dedication to family and commitment to individual responsibility have not been echoed by the nation's America Civil Rights establishment. In mid-1992, NCPPR began to bring conservative and moderate voices in the Black community to the media's attention. By March of 1993, Project 21 hired a full-time coordinator to pursue its goals, including actively promoting conservative and moderate viewpoints in the media and recruiting new members.

The organization acts to help its members get recognition. Project 21's network of African American moderates and conservatives have been interviewed by and featured on such programs as CNN & Company, CNN Morning News, The McLaughlin Group, C-SPAN's Morning Journal, Larry King, Rush Limbaugh, The Michael Reagan Show, BET's Our Voices, and in newspapers such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Detroit News, USA Today, The Cleveland Plain-Dealer, and many others. Project 21 has emerged as a voice for a niche generation of African Americans.

Since its beginning, the organization has released several writings on challenges and opportunities facing the African American community. They are Black America 1994: Changing Direction, Black America 1995: A New Beginning, Black America 1996: A Time for Renewal, and Black America 1997: How Government Harms Charities and Some Succeed. Project 21 published Black America 1998-99: Indicators of Black Progress and Are white Voters Smarter Than Black Voters.
