*Tamara Dobson was born on this date in 1947. She was a Black actress and fashion model.

She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated from Western High School. Dobson began her modeling career in fashion shows at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she received her degree in fashion illustration, and then she moved to New York.  She appeared in magazines, including Vogue and Essence, and television commercials for Fabergé, Chanel and Revlon. Dobson, who stood 6 feet 2 inches, made a few films in Hollywood and is best known for her roles in the Blaxploitation films Cleopatra Jones (1973) and Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold (1975).

Dobson also appeared in the movies Come Back; Charleston Blue; Norman, Is That You; Murder at the World Series, and Chained Heat. In the early '80s, she had TV roles in Jason of Star Command and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and appeared in ads for both Chanel and Revlon. As if those accomplishments weren't enough, the Guinness Book of World Records as the “Tallest Leading Lady in Film.”  Tamara Dobson died of complications from pneumonia and multiple sclerosis on October 2, 2006 in Baltimore, Maryland.  She was 59 years old.
